In this post, we've assembled a list of the best resources for learning about palm oil that are publicly available online. In addition to the resources here, you can also visit https://www.palm-oil.org/, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and providing information about palm oil and its by-products for both consumers and producers interested in making changes in the industry. Palm oil is derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree, which provides both edible palm nuts (seeds) and palm fruits (fruits).  It's used in everything from cookies and cakes to shampoo, butter, ice cream, cosmetics, biodiesel fuel and biochar. It is a popular ingredient in processed foods because it's inexpensive and has a long shelf-life. Demand for cheap vegetable oils has led to large-scale production of palm oil in Indonesia and Malaysia with detrimental effects on the natural environment. Prime Minister of Malaysia has recently visited with Indonesian President to discuss about palm oil issue that threatened Indonesia's sovereignty.   The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo warned Malaysia to halt the construction of the new ports in the areas claimed by Indonesia. Newspaper reported that Malaysia has planned to expand port in 6 locations in Kalimantan which are most likely to be linked with transhipment activities at the ports of Tanjung Pelapas/Pontianak, Teluk Melano, Teluk Ketapang, Seruyan and Kuala Kapuas. The most important part is not only about palm oil issue but also geo-politics in South East Asia which is worrying for both nations.  There are lots of issues that both countries have to tackle especially when it comes to territorial integrity of each nations.   The federal government is committed to promote sustainable palm oil products around the globe.  Greenpeace has made some misleading claim surrounding the development of oil palm plantation in Malaysia.  However, the government will not bow down to any pressure by NGOs, especially when it comes to sovereignty of our nation. It's the world's leading producer of palm oil, accounting for 40% of global production in 2010, and Indonesia ranks second with 14% of global production. Formerly, Malaysia and Indonesia were considered to possess the world's largest palm oil resources. The first mention of the palm oil was discovered in 1650 by a European botanist who found it growing wild along the rivers and streams of West Africa.   The first attestations of the fruit's use as a commercial product are from 1875 when it is described as being exported to Europe for use in lamps. Palm oil production is governed by various national and international standards including those for organic food production.  As most industrial applications are not covered by these standards, its industrial use may be considered non-organic. cfa1e77820
